1: Identify the possible environmental impacts of a Hazardous Materials Event
impacting Philadelphia community
Philadelphia city has been identified as one of the metropolitan areas that have been
considered to have a higher than average unhealthy air conditions from 2014 to 2016 in
comparison to other cities (August 2019). In particular, Philadelphia has been identified to
have particle, smog and ozone pollution. Additionally, there have been other toxic elements
that have been registered in the city are benzene, carbon tetrachloride and 1, 3-butadiene.
2: list the governmental entities having responsibility to oversee and or control/mitigate
such impact, with their contact numbers, added to your “master” Incident Action Plan.

Hazardous materials are defined and defined of their responsibilities primarily in the United
States by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and U.S Occupational Safety and
Health Administration (OSHA) (Thoma et al., 2016). These entities are tasked with
responsibilities of dealing with any hazardous materials.
3. Take on the role as the Public Information Officer (PIO) and submit a press release
pertaining to week 5 activities. Be prepared to answer questions from the media or
community.
Referencing the earthquake activity that was registered in the region, the NDJ is defined as an
industrial concern once there is some emission of gases from the industry. Therefore, in the
event the sector is significantly affected, there will be significant air pollution which will
likely impact the population. Some of the early signs from the gases emitted are burning eyes
and throats and the individuals may appear confused. Currently, there have been three cases

that have been reported of three casualties who have been significantly affected. U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will have to get involved speedily to ensure the
worst affected regions are quarantine to reduce the number of people who get into the zone
(Tripathy et al., 2019). The most affected patients will be treated fast and later the others who
have registered minor infections. Mino...
