Congratulations: You have just been promoted to manager. You will be relocated to a new plant that is two hours away that employs 100 employees. You will oversee a team of 10 supervisors and 90 packers and will now oversee the entire warehouse operation. How will you work to use and apply the five functions of management?

  • Controls: Identify what controls and measures you will implement.

Introduction
Amazon.com is renowned for its success in e-commerce in selling movies, videos, and
the best books through the internet. The company was established by Jeff Bezos in 1994 and is
based in Seattle, United States. The success of Amazon.com Company has been made possible
by efficient implementation of functions of management. Management is an essential part of the
success of any organization and involves the process of combining the functions of management,
which includes planning, staffing, organization, controlling, and leading to achieve the objectives
of the organization. The paper focuses on how the functions of management will be applied in
overseeing ten supervisors and ninety packers, and the entire warehouse operations.
Planning
In the new role of a manager, I will be required to be a planner, a problem solver, an
organizer, a coach, and a decision-maker in the new Amazon.com plant. The schedule of a
manager is full having meetings with supervisors, dealing with unexpected issues, holding policy
sessions, and dealing with other miscellaneous things as they appear in the warehouse. The
manager will use the planning function of management in choosing appropriate organizational
goals and identifying the right course of action that will help in realizing the goals. Amazon.com
uses planning in determining contracts and projects that the company is likely to pursue (Baack,
Reilly & Minnick, 2014). In the new plant, planning will be used to assess the environment in
which our employees are going to work, review the scope of work in the new plant, and review
the necessary steps that will be taken to develop the working plan of the new warehouse.
